DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM (DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM)

 Abstract An application of a Decision Support System (Decision Support System) was developed in 1970 Decision Support Systems (DSS), supported by a computer-based information systems can help people to improve their performance in decision making. A manager in a company can solve the problem of semi-structure, where the manager and the computer must work together as a team of problem solvers in solving problems in the area of semi-structured. DSS utilize resources intellectually individuals with the ability of computers to improve the quality of decisions. Definition of Decision Support System can be regarded as a computer system that processes data into information for decision-making of a semi-structured problem-specific. Purpose The purpose of the Decision Support System (DSS), among others, are: • help managers make decisions to solve semi-structured problems • support the assessment manager is not trying to replace • improve the effectiveness of decision-making of a manager of the efficiency. Stages Stages in decision-making include: • intelligence activities, • designing activities, • choose activities and examine. Intelligence activity is observed activity to determine the environmental conditions that need to be fixed. This activity is a stage in the development of ways of thinking. To do this intelligence activities required an information system, in which the necessary information is obtained from internal and external conditions so that a manager can take an appropriate decision. Design activity is an activity to discover, develop and analyze a variety of alternative possible actions to be done. The design phase includes the development and evaluation of a series of alternative activities. The main considerations have been introduced by Simon to perform this stage, whether the decision situation is programmed or not. While selecting and examining activities is used to choose a particular course of action from those available and make an assessment of the actions that have been. Type - Type DSS DSS types according to the level of complexity and the level of support for solving the problem is as follows: • Take the information elements. • Menaganalisis entire file. • Prepare reports of various files. • Estimate of the consequences of the decision. • Propose a decision. • Make a decision. Model Model DSS consists of: 1 mathematical model. 2 Database. 3 software. DSS software is often referred to as the DSS generator. DSS generator contains modules for databases, models and dialogue management. The database module provides several ways, such as: creation, interrogation and maintenance for the DSS database. DSS database has the ability to find a database system that has been stored. While the model is used to present the modules ability to create, maintain and manipulate in the form of mathematical models. This basic model featuring electronic spreadsheet. Model dialog is used to entice users to connect directly between the computer user in finding a solution. Factors Supporting DSS Decision making is influenced by: • Technological factors • Factors structural complexity of international markets • • Factor Factor Factor consumerism political stability • • • Factors Factors government intervention information relating to the matter, • factors and decision-making styles • Factors capabilities (intelligence , perception, and philosophy), and • consideration of decision makers. Decision making is always associated with the uncertainty of the results of the decisions taken. To reduce these uncertainties, decisions require valid information about the conditions that have been, and probably will happen, and then process that information into some alternative solutions as a material consideration when deciding which measures will be implemented, so that the decision taken is expected to menrberikan maximum profit . • Using a Computer Application Base Information System (CBIS) to environmental groups, such as: Electronic Meeting System (EMS) and Group Decision Support System (GDSS). Group Decision Support Systems (group decision support system), or GDSS is a computer-based system that supports groups of people engaged in a task (goal) and that provides a common interface to a shared environment. Application of DSS in Academic Management Processes in academic management, decision-making process has been a lot relying on the DSS has been developed. The following review of Information Systems Development at Airlangga University Surabaya using a web-based Decision Support System. 1 Development of Information Systems Development, Airlangga University and utilization of information systems is one of the programs the University of Airlangga (Airlangga University) to support the development and management of university education. Development of the use of information technology (IT), which is also referred to as information and communication technology (information and communication technology = ICT) is a basic strategy that can support the development and management of university education system is efficient and effective. While the achievement of development goals step is to increase the accessibility of resources and activities within the academic community of the management information system (MIS) is an integrated and modern so it can perform self-evaluation, monitoring, auditing and financial academic, and comprehensive planning. Airlangga information systems infrastructure developed to support the decision support system and use of ICT in all work units. ICT helpful in improving the quality of education and internal management control. Strategy implementation on elements of organizational performance improvement is by improving and developing management information systems. Airlangga SIM development directed into three levels, namely: 1) Executive Information System: the need for top management strategic information; 2) Decision Supporting System: information needs for middle managers that are used for the implementation of planning; and 3) Transaction Processing System: used for operations managers in order to carry out their duties and perform monitoring functions. In supporting the creation of the information system level, it would require some prerequisites, namely the availability of: • Computer Systems to develop a paperless office, internet, intranet, center / data warehouse (data center / ware-house), network PCs, telecom remote sites, and e -learning with various variants. • The staff and employees are able to control a computer system. This is useful for university management and faculty in preparing a work plan and control the implementation of activities in the university and faculty. Referring to the achievement of strategic objectives "of communication and information technologies that are reliable", then determined following several strategic targets. • All data and strategic information has been contained in the form of digital data. • All employees (administrative staff and faculty) are able and have access to the data and information supporting duties in accordance with its authority. • The whole process of learning has been utilizing information and communication technology services provided • All students have been able to utilize the information and communication technology service learning support provided. • decision support systems (Decision Support System) has been used by all managerial levels as needed. Airlangga University Information Systems Development is done in stages according to the performance of the unit and the internal needs of each Faculty in the University of Airlangga. Broadly speaking, the development of information systems Airlangga directed in accordance with the blueprint development as outlined in the Project Proposal IMHERE B.2.b Airlangga with the following objectives. 1 To develop a realiable (valid, secure, and up to date), Airlangga University MIS in all aspect of the data and information by higher management. 2 To develop decision support system (DSS) for higher management Airlangga University roomates will be utilized by the Board of Trustees, Academic Senate, Audit Board, and Rector in strategic decision making. The objective is achieved through the following three groups of activities. 1) Improve MIS and ICT managing each unit in Airlangga University to Accomplish Reviews their roles and responsibilities properly. 2) Develop and implement integrated Airlangga University MIS applications that synergize with all potential resources. 3) Develop Airlangga University network system the which is reliable and efficient. Project IMHERE B.2.b strategic role as an accelerator Airlangga information systems development. To support administrative and academic activities, the Directorate of Information Systems to develop the existing information systems administration and rector's office and coordinate development carried out by units of work at Airlangga environment. Development include: 1 internet and intranet networks Airlangga University (AirNet) 2 applications for faculty, work units and universities within the University of Airlangga 3 websites for school, university and work units within the University of Airlangga. 1.2 Management of Information Systems 1.2.1 Airlangga University, Airlangga University Information System Manager Management information systems Airlangga University is under the direct responsibility of the Vice Rector III. Directorate of Information Systems (DSI) support the duties and functions of the Vice Rector III in the field of Information Systems. While in the implementation and management of information systems development is done by Airlangga University Directorate of Information Systems. At the faculty level management carried out by the Information Systems Unit operational decision makers is Vice Dean III. Vision As part of Airlangga University, Directorate of Information Systems (DSI) seeks to support the realization of the vision of institutional Airlangga University to become an independent, innovative, leading, pioneer development of science, technology, humanities, and the arts, based on religious morals, through the system availability and information technology is reliable and trustworthy. Mission Providing support and information communication technology to: a. Implementation of academic education, vocational and profession. b. Implementation of basic research, applied research and innovative policies to support the development of education and community service. c. Dharmabakti expertise in the fields of science, technology, humanities and the arts to the community. d. Independence efforts in implementation of Tri Dharma University through the development of institutional quality management oriented and ability to compete internationally. Figure 1 Relationship between Information Systems manager 1.2.2 Airlangga University Facilities and infrastructure are inadequate Airlangga University Information System is equipped with a number of hardware and software to support operational activities sufficient for the conduct of the duties and functions of management information system Airlangga University in general. Hardware generally consists of servers, network devices, and user devices (PCs, printers, etc.). The main hardware is managed by the Directorate of Information Systems and other jointly managed by Information Systems Unit faculties / units / agencies, such as: • backbone transmission using optical fiber (fiber optic 12 cores, the ring system) with secondary / backup 54 Mbps WiFi bridging as Wide Area network (WAN) between campuses ABC • active Layer-3 devices and 2 manageable switches (Cisco Catalist and 3Com), • HP servers, IBM servers, etc. • Cisco router (with firewall, intrussion detector, content filtering features), in some faculties reinforced with special safety devices such as Symantec Gateway systems (dedicated server for security) • 58 medical colleges WiFi antenna for WiFi hotpsot are being developed in the system WiFiAIR (Wireless Fidelity integrated Airlangga Roaming), integrated with WiFi network of Indosat IM2 nationally. Included in this group are INSTANT applications that are in the early stages of implementation in order to facilitate the calculation of the performance faculty at the same point for the management of the filing of the promotion. Of course, the deepening and expansion of the type of data and the development of relationships among the data so as to produce richer information needs to be improved to increase the carrying capacity of the DSS have been developed. 1.3.2.1 Databases Database Airlangga University information system is the basis of the data stored in the server group. The main database of faculty and all units are stored in a server that is managed by the Directorate of Systems Informsi located in the Office of Administration building and Rector of Airlangga University. Various databases were also developed by the faculty and work units in accordance with the activities and direction of development of each of the coordinate matrix application to other related units. Sebagai secondary backbone digunakan Wireless Bridging 54 Mbps.LAN Unair mengoneksikan jaringan komputer antar fakultas, unit, dan lembaga di masing-masing kampus A, B, dan C menggunakan backbone fiber optic 4 core (up to 2 Gbps) dengan konfigurasi bintang (star) dan sebagian kecil masih menggunakan wireless bridging 54 Mbps atau kabel UTP 100/1000 Gbps.Gambar 13 Jaringan Komputer (WAN & LAN) Unair 2007 1.3.3.5 Jaringan nirkabel Jaringan nirkabel Unair terdiri atas backbone nirkabel (secondary backbone WAN dan beberapa fakultas/unit) dan distibusi terminal nirkabel melalui 58 WiFi hotspot untuk ratusan perangkat nirkabel yang digunakan.Selain jaringan komputer nirkabel, Unair juga mengembangkan jaringan nirkabel perangkat seluler dalam bentuk mobile Virtual Private Network (mVPN) cellular sebagai hasil kerjasama dengan PT Telkomsel (Halo Corporate Unair) yang di antaranya meliputi fitur: web2 sms, shortcode, queing, dan hunting.1.3.3.6 Kapasitas Internet Secara bertahap DSI Unair berusaha untuk memenuhi seluruh kebutuhan akses internet sivitas akademika Unair.Hingga Oktober 2007, kapasitas internet terpasang Unair secara berurutan dari tiap provider adalah Telkom (Astinet f.o. BGP) 6016 kbps, Telkom (Speedy) 4608 kbps, Indosat (IM2 f.o. Only few recognized bridge as a game that could sharpened people’s brain, and improve their intellectuality. Just the tool that Telkom University needs when it comes to prepare the next generation of it’s students.This is why in many years, Telkom University and Yayasan Pendidikan Telkom (YPT) has shown a pretty big attention to the bridge development among students in West Java. Like what we did on Saturday (1/3/14), where 17 team from various colleges, senior high, and junior high in West Java, join a friendly match in Telkom Creative Industries School (TCIS) Telkom University Hall. This game is only a warming up before the bigger event that going to be held this year. The CEO of YPT Mr. Johni GIrsang, M.Sc. said that he is obsessed to delivered a world class bridge athletes from Telkom University. This fact can be seen in Telkom PDC, the training center for IT and management, a week ago, when 96 students from Satya Wiyata Mandala University based in Nabire Papua join an IT training for 5 days.You’re gonna love the story. They’ve came to Bandung by the sea, taking not less than five days of a journey from Papua. The lecturer of Satya Wiyata Mandala University Bapak Arfan Natan Palumpun, ST., who’s came with the students said, they came a long way to get an IT knowledge that unavailable at Papua. In the island, government and privates has actually provide the society with many facilities, such as personal computer and internet. But, the people cannot use it properly yet, because of their lack of knowledge about the technology. “So this training that PDC gave us, is gonna be very helpful and useful to the progress of our students studies and the life of Papua,” said Bapak Arfan. This is exactly what Bapak R.M Kusno, Director of Telkom PDC expect from the training. He hoped that the training, both in national and international level could made PDC take part in spreading the knowledge in to far east of Indonesia. The Papua students also use this opportunity to visit Research and Development PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk. and Bandung Techno Park. That would be amazing. Believe it or not, that what just happened last Sunday (15/6/14) at GOR C-Tra Bandung. Fifteen of our beloved students of TK Sandhy Putra Buahbatu Bandung won four trophies at Bandung Marching Band Children Championship. These fabulous children has successfully became the 1st winner of Divisi Pemula, Analisis Musik, General Effect, and the 3rd of Paramanandi/A (Mayoret).***....
